Lindsay will work together with you to help you heal yourself and bring vitality to your body, mind, spirit and emotions.
Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, sterile, single use needles into precise acupuncture points on the skin to aid in the stimulation and smooth flow of energy (Qi). This encourages the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) relies on herbal therapies both for the treatment of illness and in the optimization of health and prevention of disease.

Scenar is a fast acting, natural, pain relief device that delivers non-invasive electrical stimulation through the skin to trigger the body's own healing process. Often called “Needle-less Acupuncture”.

Kinesiology is the science of human movement. Kinesiologists are human movement specialists who, through the application of sciences such as anatomy, physiology and biomechanics, work to improve physical performance, posture, and also to manage or prevent injury.

During your initial visit with Jennifer, you will have the opportunity to talk about your specific condition, needs and concerns, as well as to set short and long term goals toward better management and recovery. Your alignment and posture will be assessed as well as your movement patterns. Depending on which joints are involved in your condition, your range of motion and strength will be tested in order to prescribe the best choices of exercises, stretches and muscle release to suit your current needs.

After the initial visit, Jennifer will either recommend exercise therapy or manual therapy or a combination of both. Jennifer uses a variety of manual therapy techniques such as Trigger Point release, active soft tissue release and craniosacral therapy. Tight and "knotted" areas in muscles actually prevent the area from contracting and relaxing properly. This can be extremely painful and can pull on bone thereby affecting alignment in the body. This is why manual therapy and self release exercises are an important part of the Kinesiology sessions.

Exercise therapy is a proactive therapy with a long term approach. It is an explorative process of key elements such as alignment (posture), movement and breath. An individual exercise program will be developed for you to do at home based on your individual needs. You will be shown safe ways of exercising and also learn how to implement this knowledge in your everyday movements and tasks. The result is improved spine stabilization and posture and better articular function and motor control.

Effective November 5, 2019, Jen will be offering manual therapy sessions on Tuesdays in the upstairs therapy room and exercise sessions in the Solis exercise room.

Indigenous Medicine uses the health practices, approaches, knowledge and beliefs incorporating First Nations healing and wellness while using ceremonies; plant, animal or mineral-based medicines; energetic therapies; or physical/hands on techniques.

According to Indigenous beliefs all life; human, animal, plant and mineral are part of one vast network of relationships in which we are all vitally connected to one another. The traditional Indigenous model of illness causation emphasizes social and spiritual dysfunction as a cause of illness. Indigenous medicine also seeks to provide a meaningful explanation for illness and to respond to the personal, family and community issues surrounding illness. Traditional medicine explains not only the “how” but also the “why” of sickness.

The Aboriginal approach to health care is a holistic one. It recognizes the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual dimensions of health and life. This concept of health is in many ways close to the World Health Organization’s definition of health, ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’.

Jessica uses her Indigenous Medicine skills to work together with patients empowering them to take responsibility for their own health and wellness while supporting them on their journey to radiant health. Sessions consist of an intake conversation, general energetic clean up, and healing intervention guided by spirit allies.

Osteopathic medicine was developed during the 19th century in the United States by a physician who was dissatisfied with the approach to medical diagnosis and treatments of the time. Osteopathic medicine provides all of the benefits of modern medicine, including prescription drugs, surgery and the use of technology to diagnose disease and evaluate injury. Diagnosis is also obtained through hands on palpation, and treatment rendered through soft tissue and boney manipulation. This is referred to as osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT). There are many instances when even the most sensitive of imaging devices will not be able to detect what trained hands and a skilled osteopathic practitioner can offer. For the patient, the osteopathic approach offers a combination of medical and manipulative care, with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Dr Andrews uses OMT to improve alignment, increase range of motion and normalize tissues that are injured, inflamed and painful.

• Acupuncture is a treatment form that works with Qi; the body's vital life energy. Qi flows throughout meridians within the body. It is said that if there is a block in the free flow of Qi, than pain and illness can occur.
• By inserting micro-thin needles into specific points on the body, acupuncture can correct imbalances and blockages in the circulation of Qi. When balance is reestablished, pain and illness subside.
• When an acupuncture needle is inserted into an acupuncture point, it stimulates the release of the body’s natural pain killers. It influences the nervous system, harmonizing the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems to restore balance within the body. As well acupuncture triggers the release of chemicals into the body, stimulating it’s natural healing ability, leading to an increase in our emotional and
physical well-being.
• A treatment can be deeply relaxing. People often experience the 'acu nap' and awakening to a feeling of well-being. Most people who experience acupuncture can start to feel the effects of the treatment immediately. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, bringing the body and energy system into greater alignment with every treatment. Often people are worried that acupuncture will hurt but when administered
correctly, one should experience little to no discomfort.

Jennifer Potts is a Kinesiologist, or movement specialist, and active member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK). She completed her degree in Kinesiology (with distinction) from the University of Calgary and has been following her passion for analyzing and teaching movement since.

Her career began working with athletes as she herself pursued her athletic dreams as an Ironman Triathlete. This dream led her to the South of France, where she spent 13 years, and where her career path would evolve, revealing deeper passions.

“Thanks to nearly a decade of intense training and racing, I have learned the importance of good posture and movement patterns. Without these, not only are our joints subject to more friction (leading to wear and tear and aches and pains), but we stress vital systems such as breath and digestion, leading to a host of other body dysfunctions.”

Jennifer began to specialize in injury rehabilitation and chronic pain. She studied intensively in Trigger Point Body Work ™ and other manual therapies which proved extremely effective in restoring healthy movement patterns, amongst many other health benefits.

“Manual therapy, or body work, and exercise prescription really do go hand in hand. Without releasing trigger points (essentially knots in muscles) and tension in certain areas, it is impossible to affectively strengthen and retrain motor patterns.”

“My favourite aspect of work is empowering my clients to play an active role in their rehabilitation. Everyone can learn how to release tension and trigger points themselves with massage tools and specific cues. Then they can learn how to move in a way that causes so much less fatigue and strain to the body. The benefits of this are endless.”

Jennifer moved to Nelson in 2013 with her family and has been working mainly with individuals with chronic pain. She looks forward to working with anyone who is interested in exploring movement and developing a more balanced body!
